Sutajio provides expertise in information technology and design. We want to help create a useful and interesting world with technology that makes a difference and design that doesn't just look good, but feels good as well. By focusing on simplicity and details we create immersive products that people love to use. The products we work on are used by thousands of people every day.

We believe in personality and honesty. All the design, branding and features we create for a product is with those two things in mind. We have no secret formula to how we do things. Everything we do is focused on our client and the end-user. We research, we sketch, we prototype, we develop, we test, we launch, we optimize.

By combining the skill and dedication of a technology consulting agency and the light weight and personal approach of a small design studio we are able to do great work on both large and small projects. Both commercial and non-profit work as well as self-initiated projects.

This is us

Sutajio means studio in japanese. We think of ourselves as a studio – a creative space for exploring new ideas and solutions. Our philosophy is simple, yet hard to put into action. It requires hard work, devotion and a keen eye for details. We believe that all brands need innovation to survive. Innovation requires excellent product design and that in turn requires a great deal of skill and experience.

We design and build products. That is what we do, and what we are good at. We firmly believe that by doing what we love, both for ourselves and by helping others we can create wonderful things. Creating something that people like and use every day is what gets us excited. Not just the interface or the artifact, but everything from first inception to process, architecture, strategy, financing and all the other parts that need to come together to make a successful product.

We have a number of open source projects on Github. Some of them are extractions from work we have done for various clients, while others are self initiated R&D projects.

Related – A Redis-backed high performance distributed graph database.
Resolver – A flexible Redis-backed high performance index and cache solution for ActiveModel-like objects.
Auth – A high performance OAuth2 authorization server using Sinatra and Redis, inspired by Resque.
Apple Push – A very simple implementation of the APNS (Apple Push Notification Service) protocol in Ruby.
Player – A playlist abstraction layer on top of SoundManager.
S3 Upload – A simple helper for creating a signed S3 upload policy packaged as a Ruby Gem.
Artwork – A simple Sinatra server for serving resized images on the fly from an origin server.

Some of our client work

Allaflygbiljetter.se An iPhone and iPad app for the Swedish flight ticket search engine Alla Flygbiljetter. We designed and implemented the user interface and user experience for the iPhone and iPad version of the popular travel site as well as managing and coordinating the launch and roll out of the app.

Service App is an iPhone app for the swedish indie label Service. Service have been the leading designers of Swedish pop music in the 20th century. The app gives you access to all Service singles and ep:s, some albums, news, podcasts and more. And best of all, you get a notification when new music is released.

Jens Lekman - An Argument With Myself Artwork for a limited edition of 300 picture disc 12" and digital for Swedish singer-songwriter Jens Lekman in collaboration with his swedish label Service.

Per Hagman — Vänner för livet The Swedish author Per Hagman has been the voice of a generation through his decadent depictions of the 90s and 00s. In 2010 he celebrated 20 years as an author and released his latest novel Vänner för livet (Friends for life). We redesigned Pers home page as an interactive scrap book that chronicles his 20 years as an author.

Bitspace We created a cloud based storage, streaming and backup service for music. It lets you safely store your personal music collection online for easy access from any computer or iPhone. Bitspace is an experiment in using cutting edge technology to create a massive and scalable infrastructure for media storage and distribution as well as a playground for trying out new and interesting user interface ideas. The web interface for the service makes extensive use of the new HTML5 standard and CSS3 effects and the iPhone client implements an advanced synchronization protocol for media libraries that we have developed as well as many innovative and advanced UI features.

Kixar A London based start-up that is competing with streaming music services like Spotify on the highly competitive indian market. We designed and built a web based music player for Kixar to complement their desktop and mobile app. The project also included extensive integration with social media like Facebook and Twitter, as well as rearchitecting major parts of their back-end infrastructure.
